WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVR)–An adult female and a child were shot while getting on a Metro Bus in Southeast D.C.

The double shooting took place between 19th street and Minnesota Ave. on Sunday at about 5:40 p.m., police said.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said a woman was getting on a bus with her young daughter — believed to be under the age of three — when a man came up from behind them and opened fire, reported WUSA.

According to Chief Lanier, the woman, who was apparently targeted, was hit several times and pronounced dead on the bus, while her daughter, who might have been grazed by a bullet, was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The adult was pronounced dead at the scene.
