HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Investigators in Hanover are looking for 26-year-old Jason Akers, according to an email from the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. Akers is wanted by the Virginia State Police for two felony counts of failing to comply with sex offender registry requirements.
"It is believed that Akers may be armed, so caution should be taken if he is encountered," Hanover Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chris Whitley said in an email.
In 2006, Akers was convicted in Henrico County of rape and forcible sodomy of a minor, according to the Virginia State Police sex offender website.
Investigators said while Akers is a former resident of Hanover, he is now homeless.
"It is believed that Akers is still in Hanover County or the Metro Richmond area," Whitley wrote.
Anyone with information about Akers is asked to call Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (804) 365-6140 or the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
