HAMPTON, Va. (WTVR) – The Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project has taken up the case of Jonathan Montgomery, the man wrongfully imprisoned for the past four years for sex crimes he did not commit.

His accuser Elizabeth Coast told investigators that Montgomery had assaulted her years earlier when she was 10 years old and he was 14. Recently, Hampton Circuit Court Judge, Randolph West vacated the charges against Montgomery and ordered him to be released.

In 2008 Coast admitted to investigators that she made up the story and her testimony was the primary evidence against him.

Since then, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli blocked Montgomery’s release saying that the court does not have the jurisdiction to do so.

The Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project is a Non-Profit organization that’s dedicated to correcting and preventing the conviction of innocent people in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
