WANTAGH, NY (WTVR) - Nearly two million people in New York and New Jersey lost power as a result of Hurricane Sandy. For that reason, some of the damage in that area is just now surfacing.

One of those areas is Long Island. John Mateer was with his family in their home in Wantagh, New York as trees started toppling. Mateer is recording as trees start falling across the street from him and then in his own yard and his neighbor's.

You can hear Mateer shout to his family that the tree in the yard just hit their own car. As the family notices the damage, they also see that a fallen tree has sparked a fire on the other side of their home and decide at that time they should probably move away from the window.
