WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WRAL) - As a major storm churns off the East Cast, it's creating some stunning visuals at beaches in North Carolina.
As Sandy was upgraded to a hurricane again Saturday morning, the storm is already making some big waves off the coast of North Carolina.
A WRAL-TV photojournalist captured this video at Wrightsville Beach early Saturday morning.
North Carolina's Department of Public Safety says 40 counties are now under a state of emergency as people brace for the storm.
The affected counties include those along I-95 and all counties east of I-95 to the coast.
Forecasters expect Sandy to merge with a cold front and morph into a "superstorm" before hitting the Eastern Seaboard.
As of Saturday morning, the National Weather Service said Sandy was about 335 miles south-southeast of Charleston, South Carolina.
It was a Category One hurricane with winds of 75 miles per hour.
