GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – In a see-saw battle that all but wrapped up the James River District title, Goochland outlasted Buckinghamd 28-27 in overtime at home in week 8.
Jordan Jefferson began the scoring with a 42 yard TD run that gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead. But the two teams traded scores all the way to the end. Buckingham led 21-14 when Mitchell Brice tied the game on a 9 yard TD run with 32 seconds to play.
In the first overtime, Goochland scored on their possession when Jefferson ran in from 9 yards out, making it 28-21. Buckingham answered with a Kyrie Koonz touchdown to cut the gap to 28-27. But Buckingham decided to go for the 2pt conversion and the win. Kenneth Johnson was stopped at the 1 yard line preserving Goochland's win.
The Bulldogs are now 7-2 overall and 6-0 in their district with losses to Fork Union and Midlothian. Buckingham falls to 7-2. 4-2.
