(WTVR) — The nation’s capital could look in to going the way of the Big Apple by placing restrictions on large sugary soft drinks.

According to a report by WTOP, some on the Washington D.C. Council said that they support restricting the size of sugary sodas.

WTOP goes on to say that the topic came out during a debate between candidates for At-Large Council seats.

One council member praised the legislation passed in New York city that prohibits the sale of sugary sodas that are more than 16 ounces.

The law applies to restaurants, concession stands, cafeterias and other eateries. The ban does not apply to grocery stores or the majority of convenience stores.
