MENINGITIS OUTBREAK: Va. man files suit against Ma. pharmacy
RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – An 80-year-old Roanoke man who claims he contracted fungal meningitis after receiving a tainted shot is suing the Massachusetts Pharmacy at the center of the outbreak.
Basil Proffitt`s attorney filed a $5 million lawsuit claiming the New England Compounding Center was negligent by failing to ensure the medicine was safe.
The state Health Department says so far that two people have died in Virginia from the tainted injections; 37 in our state have gotten sick.
Nineteen people nationwide have died in the outbreak, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
