RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) - A Richmond veterinarian and a friend who went missing in Glacier National Park last week returned to Richmond Tuesday afternoon.

The pair touched down at Richmond International Airport around 4:30 p.m. and was greeted by waiting friends and family.

Dr. Jason Hiser, age 32, was hiking with Neal Peckens, 32, of Northern Virginia. They were reported missing on Friday after missing their flight back home, after three days of hiking a 17-mile loop on the east side of Glacier National Park last Tuesday.

The National Park Service said the men encountered some wintry weather conditions last Tuesday. Then, while on a hike the next day, one of them slipped and fell down a 100-foot embankment.

According to park officials, the men spent the next few days rationing food and building fires while they worked to make their way back the way they had come. Then, two park rangers happened upon them Monday.

"It's high-fives and goosebumps, you know, down the arms," Glacier National Park spokesperson Denise Germann said Monday.  "It's just so wonderful to know that they're fine and doing well."
