RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Tropical Depression 16 strengthened to Tropical Storm Patty Thursday afternoon. Patty is barely at Tropical Storm force strength, but will mean a gusty, wet weekend for the Bahamas. Patty will likely hover on the Tropical Storm threshold this weekend, but be a Depression again by the time it tracks to Cuba early next week.

Here are the “typical” tropical tracks for October, based on cyclone climatology.

Tropical activity tends to drop off rapidly after Halloween as a result of cooler waters, more wind shear, and less disturbances to trigger tropical cyclone development.
