AMELIA COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A student at a local elementary school has meningitis.
Amelia County Public Schools sent a letter home to parents Wednesday to tell them about the discovery of the viral infection.
School leaders said the Piedmont Health District is aware of the situation and that this is not a public health concern. Officials said this is a relatively common form of meningitis - and that the case is isolated.
To be clear, this form of meningitis is not the same as the meningitis that is spreading across the U.S. at this time. That form of infection is fungal meningitis.
