Virginia man busted for growing pot in his garage

CULPEPER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A Virginia man was charged with drug possession and a gun crime after detectives with the Culpeper Sheriff’s Office found 60 marijuana plants in the man’s garage, according to an email from Public Information Officer Corey Byers.

Since Monday’s arrest Peter Gates, 34, has been released from jail on a $10,000 secured bond.

Byers said on Monday, Gates slammed the door on officers who knocked at his Williams Drive home. Detectives came back with a search warrant and found the marijuana plants in the garage. In addition to the drugs, detectives found two handguns, an assault rifle and more than $3,000 in cash, Byers said.

Gates was officially charged with possession with intent to distribute more than five pounds of marijuana and possession of a firearm while in possession of more than one pound of marijuana.
