Authorities said 29-year-old Jasen Yousif was killed in the Target parking lot near Memorial and Penn. last Friday afternoon.
He was shot after getting out of his car, following an incident with another man on the Kilpatrick Turnpike.
Officials said 57-year-old David Bloebaum also drove to the parking lot and opened fire, killing Yousif.
Police said the two men did not know each other prior to the shooting but had been driving aggressively on the turnpike, with one chasing the other.
“People will get angry sometimes when driving,” MSgt. Gary Knight said. “But you certainly don’t expect that to end up or lead to an armed confrontation like this.”
Officials urge the public to drive to a police or fire station if you’re being harassed on the road, or call 911, but never pull over.
“We’ve had stabbings, shootings, people get into fist fights,” Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Betsy Randolph said. “No one is going to pull over and work it out with you and talk and be rational because at the moment that they’re doing it, when they have the road rage, they can’t be rational.”
Yousif’s family did not want to talk on camera but said Yousif had a 3-year-old son and was studying to become a doctor.
Bloebaum was booked on a first-degree murder complaint.
Charges are pending the police investigation.
