RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Richmond police are looking for anyone that may have witnessed a fatal hit and run in Richmond last night.

Police said Jeffrey Shawn Smith, 33, was killed along the 4500 block of Walmsley Boulevard around 8:40 Tuesday night.

"It appears the person was struck by a vehicle, and the vehicle fled the scene," said Karla Peters, RPD Public Information Officer.

Peters said the vehicle that hit Smith may be a small dark-blue car, possibly a Volkswagen, with damage to its windshield and passenger side front bumper.

The accident happened in City Councilwoman Reva Trammell's district. She told CBS 6 pedestrian safety has long been a concern on this stretch of road.

"We have been begging for sidewalks for the past 15 years. Fifteen years," Trammell said. "I do believe the administration is looking into it."

Police ask anyone with information to call the Richmond Police Crash Team investigators at 646-1343 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
