Mitt Romney officially locks down Republican nomination

(CNN) — Mitt Romney officially clinched the GOP presidential nomination Tuesday when a majority of delegates to the Republican National Convention supported his candidacy.

For Romney, the magic number was 1,144 delegates. 

Romney’s formal nomination will take place Thursday.
