DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – No charges will be filed in connection toa July incidentin which a child was found inside a hot truck parked outside a Dinwiddie County home. Dinwiddie County Commonwealth’s Attorney Lisa Carusa told CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil she determined the child’s father was not criminally negligent.

Caruso said the children, ages 18-months and 4, walked outside when their father, a Petersburg Police officer who was off-duty at the time,  fell asleep. She said the children got inside the truck and the older child left the younger child behind.

The father called 911 after he found the toddler in the hot truck. The child, who survived, was first treated at Southside Regional Medical Center and then taken to VCU Medical Center for more extensive care.
