VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTKR) – A man in his seventies is in the hospital after nearly drowning at the Virginia Beach oceanfront Sunday.
Virginia Beach EMS crews tell WTKR-TV that the man was in the water with four to five other people at the oceanfront at 60th Street.
Officials said that the group began to struggle in the water around 10 a.m.
People on the shore went into the ocean to help and were able to get all of the group to shore except one person.
A surfer, who noticed the commotion and went over to help, spotted the man floating face down in the water. He was able to put him on his surf board and lifeguards helped bring the victim back to shore.
The man was transported to the hospital and is in critical condition.
