Richmond (WTVR) - A historic home, built in 1908 and nestled in the heart of the Fan District, will soon have new owners after U.S. Marshalls seized the property during a methamphetamine bust in 2011.
Saturday, the house at 2240 Park Ave. went the auction block.
The home’s previous owner, Stephen Hahne Jr., was convicted of drug charges in September of 2011. According to court documents, Hahne allowed methamphetamine dealers to store, distribute, and use the drug inside his home in exchange for cheap access to meth. Hahne pleaded guilty to the charges.
Saturday afternoon, dozens turned out to bid on the home, which was previously assessed by the city to be worth $730,000.
After only a few minutes of bidding, Cory Weiner placed the winning bid of $465,000. Weiner now has 30 days to close on the home.
Weiner says once the deal is closed, he will move into the over 4,000 square foot home with friend from college.
“Obviously, this house had some interested parties,” says Cody Lowderman, who auctioned off the home for Williams and Williams Auction Company. “We established a price and hopefully they’ll accept it and get some new owners in here to show a little pride of ownership in the neighborhood.”
