Major movie studios are waiting until Monday to report weekend box office numbers, out of respect for the victims of Friday’s movie theater shooting in Colorado.

However, The New York Times is reporting the new Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises” made about $162 million dollars over the weekend. Movie studios had expected the film to bring in $190 million.

A gunman killed 12 people and injured 58 others when he opened fire during a midnight screening of the movie in Aurora.

According to the Times, there is speculation moviegoers either did not want to watch a violent comic book story or did not feel safe at the movies.
