LOUISA, Va. (WTVR) – Officials announced late Thursday that a firefighter was killed after an early morning accident in Louisa County.

Louisa County Department of Fire and EMS Chief Keith Greene said 21-year-old Charles Dwain Wilson died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident Thursday while en-route to the fire station.

Greene said Wilson started as a part-time firefighter with the county in 2009 and became full-time in August of 2010. Wilson was an Eagle Scout, received a youth volunteer of the year recognition in 2008 and was awarded the Above and Beyond recognition from the Richmond Ambulance Authority.

“Charlie was deemed the Department’s “gentle giant” who always wore a smile regardless of the situation,” wrote Chief Greene in a statement. “He has in his jacket, letters of appreciation from the public as well as his coworkers for their appreciation of his acts of kindness, professionalism, and teamwork.”

Visitation for Wilson will be held at Mineral Baptist Church Family Life Center on Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Additionally, a memorial service is planned at Mineral Baptist Church Family Life Center on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Family Life Center.
