CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WTVR) – The University of Virginia’s newly appointed interim president is stepping back from the position.

Carl Zeithaml says he is suspending his role with the University until the Board of Visitor’s reconsiders its decision to oust President Teresa Sullivan.

In an e-mail, sent out on Friday,  Zeithaml told fellow faculty members at UVA that, “Trust cannot be restored in the community until President Sullivan’s status is clarified and resolved.”

His announcement comes less than a day after ten deans at UVA sent a letter to the Board of Visitors, urging them to reinstate Sullivan.

The Board of Visitors will hold a special meeting on Tuesday to talk about Sullivan’s future at UVA.
