U.Va. Vice Rector resigns

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WTVR) - University of Virginia Vice Rector Mark Kington submitted his letter of resignation to Governor Bob McDonnell.

In his resignation letter, Kington wrote he was resigning as Vice Rector "effective immediately."  In the letter, Kington wrote he hoped his resignation would "begin a needed healing process at the university." [Click here to read Kington's letter of resignation]

Tucker Martin, spokesman for Governor McDonnell, thanked Kington for his service to the Commonwealth. "Future decisions regarding appointments to this board will be made in late June or early July,” Martin said in a statement.

Early this morning the University of Virginia’s Board of Visitors appointed Carl Zeithaml as UVA's interim president. The Board rejected calls from the Faculty Senate and ignored massive protests on the lawn outside the Rotunda Monday to reinstate ousted president Teresa Sullivan.
