Philip Morris raises price of cigarettes

The next pack of smokes you buy will cost more.

Richmond-based Philip Morris USA’s cigarette and snus tobacco brands increased Monday by 6 cents per pack. All brands are affected.

When CBS 6 asked what lead to the increase, the company said they would not comment.

Philip Morris USA makes the nation’s top selling cigarette brand, Marlboro. The average convenience store price per pack for Marlboro is $5.71 nationally, while the lowest average price is $4.23.

R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., the nation’s second largest cigarette company, is also raising prices on seven of their brands by 6 cents.
