HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - Police have released the names of the two people killed in a crash outside Seven Gables Apartments on N. Laburnum Avenue Monday afternoon.
Police said three other people, including an infant ejected from a vehicle, were taken to VCU Medical Center.
Police found two people dead when they arrived. One person died inside a car and another who had been ejected from a vehicle was found dead.
Henrico police said 85-year-old Clarence R. Wimbush, of the 600 block of Williamsburg Road in Sandston, and 32-year-old Reina S. Opperman, of the 400 block of N. Laburnum Avenue in Henrico, died in the crash.
Police said the one-year-old baby boy suffered life threatening injures. Additionally, two women suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
Officials said Tuesday morning that the Henrico Police Department's crash team is continuing to investigate the accident, which occurred at 5:20 p.m between a white Mercedes and a gray Chevy Cavalier.
The accidents closed Laburnum Avenue to southbound traffic at Creighton Road until 10 p.m.
Lt. A.D. Merz with Henrico police said that this crash was so extensive that it may be a while before they can piece it together and figure out exactly what happened.
"We will look at all aspects, including damage to the automobiles, the occupants and drivers of both vehicles and road conditions,” said Merz.
