WASHINGTON, DC (WTVR) – Rep. Eric Cantor (R – Virginia) fired back at President Obama Friday after the President said the country’s private sector was “doing fine.”
“My question would be to the president: Are you kidding? Did he see the job numbers that came out last week? The private sector is not doing fine,” Rep. Cantor said.
He added the President should stop blaming the economy in Europe and the Republicans in Congress for the state of the country's economy. He said the President's failed stimulus policies are to blame.
Earlier Friday, President Obama blamed partisan gridlock which, he said, has helped hobble economic growth and helped bring legislative business to a crawl, squarely with an uncooperative Congress.
"If Congress decides, despite all that, that they aren't going to do anything about this simply because it's an election year, then they should explain to the American people why," Obama said.
The President did take credit for creating 4.3 million jobs over the last 27 months. A statement that led to him saying "the private sector's doing fine."
