RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) Richmond police have released details on today's homicide in the 3800 block of Chamberlayne Avenue, near Laburnum Avenue in the Ginter Park area.

James Mercante, Richmond Police Department, said that the initial calls came in about an argument, then just two minutes later the call came in about a shooting.

The shooting was near the Fern Tree apartments and CBS 6 has learned from police sources that a male, estimated to be in his 30s, was shot at very close range.

The shooting, which police said  was isolated and does not appear to be random, occurred a block away from the double-shooting in the city’s north side that occurred April 16, 2012.

The incident is also not too far from the Newman Village Apartments, where 17-year-old Keona Johnson was fatally shot in April in a drive-by shooting.

Police said that two blocks of Chamberlayne Avenue, north of Laburnum Avenue, were closed for just under three hours to accommodate the investigation.

We will have more tonight at 11 p.m., with riveting images from today's scene. CBS 6 reporter Jon Burkett spoke with a guy who knew the victim well, and also with neighbors that were kept out of their homes for hours while police investigated.
