Crews rescue 9 stranded in James River

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The Richmond Fire Department pulled nine people trapped in the James River to shore Monday afternoon.

Fire crews were called out around 4:15 p.m. to Hollywood Rapids after receiving a call that three to five people were stuck on a rock out i-- and that one woman had fallen into the river.

Richmond Fire Lt. Hagaman said when rescue crews arrived, they found three  people actually stuck on the rocks in the river. 

Later, two people on some tubes got separated from their group and one had to be pulled to shore. 

The bike patrol also helped two people get to shore. 

That means crews ended up rescuing nine people from the river Monday.
