PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR) – Southern Living has named Saucy’s Walk-Up Bar.B.Q. in  Petersburg as one of “The South’s Best Butt: 20 of the Best Barbecue Joints in the South.”

“It’s an incredible honor to be chosen,” said Tom McCormack, owner of Saucy’s Walk-Up. “There are a lot of people coming in off 95 and stopping in for a sandwich.”

McCormack credited good reviews on Yelp for much of that interstate business.

“We tried the pulled pork sandwich and the 1/4 chicken, both with sauce. Everything was excellent. We’ll definitely add Saucy’s into our travel plans next time we travel south past Richmond,” wrote one reviewer in April.

“Saucy’s is one of my favorite places.  Their little setup is so cute and cozy, complete with picnic tables and Christmas lights.  Service is like family, every time,” wrote another traveler from California.

McCormack told CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil he was excited to see what kind of traffic the Southern Living ranking would generate.

Southern Living wrote about Saucy's, "Meat smoked according to low-and-slow traditions, then swabbed with sauces such as mustard-jalapeno."

Another Petersburg fixture, King's Barbeque, was also mentioned in the magazine for having a top sauce.
