VIDEO VAULT: Short Pump Park Dec. 19, 1985

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) A group of children and Henrico County officials were on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony at Short Pump Park.

At the time the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported:

Ground was broken yesterday for Henrico County’s new Short Pump Park on Pump Road adjacent to Short Pump Elementary School. The 15-acre site will be a neighborhood playground. The first phase will include a picnic shelter, play area, soccer field, softball field, exercise trail and restrooms. Approximately $366,000 has been budgeted by state and local agencies for Phase I.

The CBS 6 report indicated there were 10 parks in Henrico at the time. Today that numbers stands at 49.
