RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - People traveling to one of the beaches in Hampton Roads in the summer months know how frustrating it can be to get stuck in traffic for hours.
And that traffic always seems to be worse on Fridays and Sundays, unless you're savvy enough to know which tunnel to take.
But this beach season, there's a new tool that will could drivers navigate more easily.
VDOT said new signs will be installed along I-64 east on the Peninsula by Memorial Day to give drivers a real-time look at just how long it will take to get through the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel or the Monitor Merrimac Tunnel.
Technology will allow VDOT to track traffic flow and speeds using many GPS units that are installed in some vehicles on the road.
