A 300 year-old tree in Virginia has a new, famous name.

A student group at Virginia Tech named one of the oldest oaks behind their campus after comedian Stephen Colbert.

The tree is located in Stadium Woods, which has been a source of controversy.
The athletic department wants to build a 20-acre indoor football practice facility. But opponents of the facility say there are trees in the lot that are more than 300 years old, and they want to protect them.

The students say they reached out to Colbert to see if he could come to Tuesday’s ceremony. He could not, but the students say they will send a recording of the ceremony to him in hopes it airs on his show.
