(WTVR)- Concussions from hard hits in football are making headlines again because of a lawsuit filed by former NFL football players, making improved helmets is a priority.

Three helmets tested by Virginia Tech received a five star rating, the highest possible.

They are the Riddell Revolution Speed, the Rawlings Quantum Plus and Riddell 360 also earned five stars as the best available helmets.

The ratings are done by studying the impact on the helmet at different angles and impact speeds.

Virginia Tech says companies that make the helmets have used last years tests to build stronger and more protective helmet models.
