HENRICO, Va. (WTVR) – Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Thursday at an apartment complex near a Henrico high school.

It happened just after 3 p.m. in the 8800 block of Three Chopt Road at the Three Chopt West Apartments, which is across the street from Freeman High School.

Police told CBS 6 News' Lorenzo Hall they were responding to a disorderly conduct call at the apartment complex. [Click here to sign up for breaking news alerts from WTVR.com]

When officers arrived, they spotted  a man who had just forced his way into one of the apartments.

As officers tried to take the man into custody, police said a struggle took place and that an officer shot the man.

Police said the man was taken to VCU Medical Center. There has been no word yet on his condition.

Additionally, a witness told Hall that she saw a man first beating on cars, then later spotted the man holding up his hands, telling police to shoot him. [GRAPHIC WARNING: Photos from bystander from police-involved shooting]
