PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR) - The family of a 20-year-old shot near the Virginia State University campus Tuesday is sharing their grief as police release new information about the shooting.

Chesterfield County Police said surveillance video showed four young men sitting on a curb near the VSU campus, when a car with Tyrail Hughes pulled up.

Officials said the video shows a physical argument moments after the two groups met up. Next, multiple gunshots were fired that hit Hughes and a VSU student who was walking past at the time.

Police said they hope the video will help find the people involved, including the gunman.

Family members said Hughes was shot three times and died a short time later at a local hospital.

Hughes who turned 20 in January, leaves behind a one-year-old son.

Pamela Hughes said her son was the comedian in the family who always hung up the phone saying "I love you, Mom."

Jessica Hughes, Tyrail's sister, said she has no idea why her brother left the house heading towards Virginia State, but that she was one of the first to learn he had been shot.

The family said they are leaning on each other for support, but think they will begin to feel closure when police make an arrest.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Chesterfield Crime Solvers at 748-0660.
