VA ranks 6th in student loan debt

(WTVR) – Virginians are mired in student loan debt, compared to the average American. This is according to the latest report from CreditKarma.com

According to the report, Virginia ranks sixth in the nation in student loan debt, with the average graduate owing $31,700. The national average is $29,523.

By comparison, Wyoming has the lowest average student loan balance, just under $22,900

Maryland had the highest student loan balance, with the average student owing $33,704.

Virginia also ranked high in mortgage debt,  with the average homeowner owing more than $214,000.
