CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) -  Official said that the human skull, arm and finger bones found by construction crews clearing the old Cloverleaf mall site Tuesday are part of an old gravesite.

Pictures obtained by CBS6 showed parts of a skull and other smaller bones in a clay and rock mixture from the site, located near Midlothian Turnpike and Chippenham Parkway.

Police said Wednesday that the remains were part of an old gravesite that construction crews found hile digging about 6 to 8 feet into the ground.

Officials said that based on objects found with the remains, including nails and ornamental handles, police think the remains are about 100 years old.

Additionally, police are working with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources to id possible family members of the previous property owners.

Work crews tore Cloverleaf mall down last month to make way for a new development.

A 123,000-square-foot Kroger anchor store is expected to open in late 2012. Developers are working to turn the former mall site into a collection of retail stores, office space and housing.
