RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine has been certified as the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in the upcoming election on Nov. 6.
The Democratic Party of Virginia advised the Virginia State Board of Elections Friday afternoon that Kaine had been certified as the Democratic nominee.
More than 30,000 ballot petitions were handed over Thursday. They verified Kaine was the only candidate to qualify for the nomination this year, according to the Democratic Party of Virginia.
“Virginians could not ask for a better leader to represent them in the U.S. Senate, and Democrats could not ask for a better candidate to lead us to victory this November,” said party chairman Brian Moran.
Additionally, the Republican Party of Virginia also tallied up signatures to determine the candidates for the June 12 Republican Primary. [READ MORE: Allen, Radtke and Marshall certified for GOP primary]
