STAFFORD, Va. (WTVR) – Police in Stafford County have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of soliciting sex with a 13-year-old girl online.
Stafford County Sheriff’s Office officials said Timothy Ray Phillips, of the 300 block of Shamrock Avenue in Yorktown, was arrested Thursday.
Phillips was charged with 2 Counts of Attempted Indecent Liberties With a Minor and 2 Counts of the Use of a Electronic Device to Solicit a Juvenile.
Officials said a Stafford detective, pretending to be a 13-year-old girl, had been chatting with Phillips since mid-February.
Authorities said that Phillips had been trying to meet to have sex with the 13-year-old — and made plans to hook up with the teen at a hotel in Stafford Thursday night.
Detectives conducted surveillance on Phillips once he arrived at the hotel late Wednesday. As a result, he was arrested Thursday morning as he was leaving his hotel room.
Phillips is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
