RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - A crowd of people heckled Virginia Del. Bob Marshall (R - Prince William County) and chanted 'shame' as he discussed the passage of his so-called 'personhood bill' [Read HB1], in a Virginia Senate committee Thursday morning.
The bill, which seeks to provide rights to unborn children at every stage of development, now moves on to a vote before the entire state Senate. Opponents view the bill as a step towards the outlaw of abortion, a claim Del. Marshall denies.
While answering questions about today's vote outside the meeting room, one woman had to be restrained while screaming at the delegate. There were no reports of any arrests made by Capitol Police.
Earlier this week more than one thousand people held a silent protest at the Virginia State Capitol to urge lawmakers to vote this bill.
Yesterday groups that oppose a bill that would require women to get an ultrasound before an abortion [Read Bill], dropped off a stack of petitions at the Virginia State Capitol with more than 30,000 signatures.
