CULPEPER, Va. (WTVR) – A woman was killed in what was described as an “officier-involved” shooting Thursday morning in Culpeper, Virginia.

A Culpeper officer responded to a suspicious person sitting in a Jeep Wrangler parked along the 300 block of North East Street, according to an email from Culpeper spokesman Wally Bunker.

Bunker wrote shots were reportedly fired during an altercation between the person and the officer.

The woman, later identified as 54-year-old Patricia Cook, was pronounced dead on the scene after the Jeep crashed along the 200 block of North East Street, Bunker wrote.

The police officer, who suffered minor injuries, is on administrative leave pending a Virginia State Police investigation.
