RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – One lawmaker says if pregnant women should have to get an ultrasound before having an abortion, then men should submit to a number of tests, including a rectal exam before getting Viagra.

The bill requiring an ultrasound before an abortion was introduced by Delegate Mark Cole (R – Fredericksburg), and would require pregnant women to have the procedure before undergoing an abortion procedure.

It is one of three similar bills making their way through the 2012 Virginia General Assembly.

Senator Janet Howell (D-Fairfax) expressed her disdain for the bill by proposing an amendment that would have required men to undergo a rectal exam and a cardiac stress test before getting a drug for erectile dysfunction.

The Senate rejected Howell’s amendment on a mostly party-line 21-19 vote.
