Fund established, vigil held to honor student who died from allergic reaction

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA (WTVR) - Amarria Johnson was a classic 7-year-old girl. She loved tiaras, and her dream was to become a rock star, said her mother.

More than 100 of her fans gathered tonight; family and friends with candles and gifts.The vigil, held at the 6000 block of Manassass Drive, was open to the public.

The crowd gathered in front of the home for a vigil. Stories were shared about her through song and tears punctuated the moments.

Police said the Hopkins Elementary school first grader, died Monday after suffering an allergic reaction at school. Johnson's mother said the allergic reaction was to a peanut product.

Tonight’s vigil was for remembrance and strength, it was not about the investigation.

“I feel blessed that all these people were able to come out and support their love for Amarria,” Laura Pendleton said. “It's really taken me aback, honestly.”

A memorial fund has been set up to help the family with burial costs and other expenses.

Donations to the "Amarria Johnson Fund" can be made any Wells Fargo bank.

Amarria's mother said the funeral will be held at noon on Saturday at Fifth Street Baptist church.
