RICHMOND, Va. -- A weak upper-level trough is moving through the region today, taking the edge off the recent extreme heat and humidity. We'll see scattered showers and storms develop this afternoon and evening, some of which could linger a little past midnight. Saturday will be another seasonally hot and humid day, with highs in the upper 80s and low 90s.
The high heat and humidity will return to the area Sunday through Tuesday as ridging strengthens over the area. Highs will reach the mid to upper 90s, with heat index values over 100 degrees, and potentially over 105 degrees. A chance for showers and storms will return to the area by the middle of next week as a strong upper-level trough approaches the area. This trough will push a cold front through the area late in the week, likely keeping our highs in the 80s for a couple of days.
Tropical Storm Gonzalo will move over the Windward Islands and into the Caribbean this weekend. Tropical Storm Hanna should make landfall tomorrow south of Corpus Christi. Another disturbance just west of the African coast has a medium chance to become a tropical cyclone over the next 5 days.
