HOPEWELL, Va. -- The last time Hopewell won a State Championship in boys basketball, Elvin Edmonds IV wasn’t even born.
Edmonds IV, the school’s all-time leading scorer, scored a team-high 18 points despite leg cramps late in the game as the Blue Devils defeated Abingdon 58-55 for the Class 3 State Title.
“It’s a great feeling,” stated Edmonds IV. “It’s very exciting, very happy. It’s just a blessing.”
In the span of 15 months, Hopewell has added a boys basketball and football championship to their trophy case.
“Hopewell is passionate about its football and its basketball,” Hopewell Head Coach Elvin Edmonds III said. “It’s just great for the community. We don’t take this lightly. We’ve been blessed with an opportunity to honor our community and do it the right way.”
Hopewell finished their championship season a perfect 8-0 record.
Congrats, Blue Devils!
