MECHANICSVILLE, Va. -- Gelati Celesti will open a "pop-up" ice cream shop this month in the Rutland Commons shopping center on Atlee Road in Mechanicsville.

Until the store officially opens just before Christmas, Gelati Celesti has parked its ice cream truck outside the shop and will serve pints and quarts of ice creams to those who cannot wait.

"We are so excited to come to Mechanicsville,” Steve Rosser, Gelati Celesti owner and president, said. “As a way of introducing ourselves to the community, we’re giving away ice cream on December 4 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m.”

The Mechanicsville location is considered a pop-up because it will stay open for six months.

If business is good, it could become a permanent location, Gelati Celesti spokesperson Heidi LaSalata said.

"The other difference in this store and our existing ones is that we're not scooping individual servings - initially we will sell only pints, quarts, pies, and cakes," she said.

The Richmond-based ice cream shop has six other locations in Central Virginia and one in Virginia Beach.
