Tracking another surge of heat

Posted
and last updated

RICHMOND, Va. -- The extreme heat from earlier in the week has lessened a bit, with high temperatures back in the lower 90s.

Unfortunately, another surge of heat will take place over the next few days. Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s on Sunday, and near 100° on Monday and Tuesday.

With muggy conditions, the heat index will surpass 105° Monday and Tuesday, and more heat advisories are likely.

We are currently in a long stretch of 90s. Including Saturday, July 25, we have had 16 straight days of 90° or hotter.

The longest stretch of 90s was 27 days from 1995. The second longest stretch was 19 days from 1993. With the heat expected through mid-week, our total will surpass that.

A cold front will potentially keep highs below 90° later this week.
