RICHMOND, Va. -- Senator Amanda Chase (R - Chesterfield) announced Monday her plan to run for Governor of Virginia.
Chase said she would seek the party's nomination for the 2021 race.
“I can no longer just continue to hold accountable the leadership and legislators that embraced the stripping of our first amendment rights, second amendment rights, and our constitutional freedoms," Chase said in reference to state Democrats' effort to pass gun control legislation. "It’s just not enough. So I’m going to do something about it!”
Chase has often clashed with her own party and was expelled from the Chesterfield GOP last year. She said she would run as an independent candidate if state Republicans did not support her candidacy.
“As the people’s campaign surges ahead, I will continue fighting for your Constitutional freedoms and rights, so help me God!" she said.
