Tropical Storm Danny headed toward South Carolina coast

The fourth named storm of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season is heading toward the South Carolina coastline Monday evening.

Tropical Storm Danny formed Monday morning after the National Hurricane Center announced they were watching a low-pressure system as it developed into a tropical depression and then gained strength.

Danny has sustained winds of 40 mph with stronger gusts and is producing a “large areaof showers and thunderstorms.”

Tropical storm warnings have been issued for areas along the South Carolina coast.

“Regardless of development, a few inches of rain are possible along the immediate coasts of Georgia and southern South Carolina through Tuesday,” the National Hurricane Center reports.

Danny is expected to cause swells on the coast and isolated flooding inland.

"Heavy rainfall is possible from coastal southern South Carolina and George, inland across the Piedmont of Georgia into northeast Alabama," the NHC states.
