Army Brigadier General Janeen L. Birckhead, a Hampton University grad, has been selected to command the National Guard troops serving at the U.S. Capitol.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan congratulated Birckhead, the assistant adjutant general for the Maryland National Guard, in a tweet.

Birckhead received her BA in political science in 1991 from Hampton University where she began her military career in the ROTC.
States across the nation have deployed their National Guard troops to provide extra security on Inauguration Day after the violent attack on the Capitol on January 6.
As of Saturday, 2,400 airmen and soldiers with the Virginia National Guard are in the nation's capital.
