HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A Henrico woman said she came within a foot of being shot inside her home Wednesday night, after a gun accidentally went off in her neighbor's apartment.

It happened on Fairlake Lane around 8:30 p.m.

Police tell Crime Insider Jon Burkett they were called the apartment complex for a report of a couple arguing outside.

When officers arrived, they said the fight moved inside and a gun was accidentally fired.

The bullet, police said, went through a brick wall, and three interior walls of a neighboring apartment.

Destiny Cameron was inside that apartment, sitting on the edge of her bed folding clothes.

She said she heard the noise, but thought it was a nearby candle exploding.

“I’m thankful that I’m alive," Cameron tells CBS 6. "The first thing I did was go get my boyfriend. They’re [police] saying that if I was over just about a foot, I would have gotten hit.”

The man police said fired the weapon was arrested and charged with reckless use of a firearm.
